Introduction : In the early 1990s, when they were young winemakers, Catherine and Laurent Delaunay would find themselves imagining a range of pleasure-bent, delectable, aromatic and flavourful wines that would speak the universal language of their varietals and be accessible to all wine lovers, whether they be neophytes or connoisseurs. This range would be named Les Jamelles: a feminine name, to evoke the roundness of their wines, in the plural form to reflect the diversity of the varietals, and melodious to recall their roots in the Languedoc, land of the troubadours. Today, Les Jamelles wines make up one of the largest collections of varietal wines from the south of France and are enjoyed in over 40 countries. They are renowned for their exceptional value for the money and pleasure factor, their wide appeal, and the fact that they can be enjoyed on all occasions.
Region : Languedoc
Appellation : Pays d’Oc
Grape Variety : 100% Grenache
Colour : Red
Agricultural practices : Sustainable
ABV : 13.5%
Ageing : The grapes are picked at their peak of ripeness and the majority are completely destemmed. However a small portion is transferred to the tanks intact in order to preserve crisp fruitiness and is left to macerate for several months under monitored temperatures with regular pump-overs. The wine is then aged for 7 to 9 months, partly on oak, partly in tanks to preserve fruitiness.
Tasting notes: Crimson in colour with vivid highlights, Les Jamelles Grenache features an intense nose evocative of red fruit (raspberry) and notes of mild spices (cardamom). Very rich, very balanced on the palate, this wine is round and bursting with flavours of berry coulis (raspberry, strawberry, blueberry). Nuances of spices (fresh peppercorns) lend pleasing freshness to the overall tasting experience.
Serving temperature : 17°C
Food pairing :This Grenache goes well with terrines, Mediterranean dishes, grilled meat (lamb) or meat with sauce. It may also be paired with a red fruit dessert.
