HISTORY

Haut-Marbuzet really began its existence in 1952 when Hervé Duboscq, who was   wine merchant and colorful character, purchased this 7 ha estate. Hervé Duboscq was indeed in trade relationship with the owner , a Mr. Lambert, who had himself inherited these vines following the bursting of the vast field of McCarthy family in 1854. By successive purchases Duboscq reconstructed the vineyard . His son Henry assured gradually, in the 70s, the responsibility of the property. By his extraordinary personality and his bold choice in grape and wine material , he put his reputation and the quality of Upper Marbuzet to a level considered by many close to the finest wines of the appellation.

 

TERROIR

Located on the Marbuzet plateau, between the Chateau Cos d’Estournel and Château Montrose , the soil is composed of a Graves terroirs with the clay-limestone subsoil. The 76 hectares of vines are planted on ziennegravel rump on clay-limestone subsoil overlooking the Gironde, with plantings made ​of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) , Merlot (40%) and Cabernet Franc ( 10%). The average age of the vines is 30 years and the density of 8,500 vines per hectare . The cultivation takes place in a traditional manner with a minimum of chemical additives.
